Examining Codes of Ethics! 3 meaningful Ideals in the NAEYC & DEC!

* I-1.12—To work with families to provide a safe and smooth transition as children and families move from one program to the next.

-This ideal is meaningful to my professional life because as leaders and advocates for the childhood community it is important to make all children and families feel comfortable by providing the necessary support that will aid in healthy and progressive cognitive, social and emotional development. We must provide children with necessary resources and knowledge that will help them progress.

* I-1.9—To advocate for and ensure that all children, including those with special needs, have access to the support services needed to be successful.

This ideal is meaningful to my professional life because as an advocate, role model and leader for children it is important to ensure that all children have access to support and aid services in order for them develop socially, cognitively, and physically regardless of their race, socioeconomic status, or disability.

* I-1.5—To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions.

Safe and healthy learning environments are conducive to a child's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development because they are normally related to the curriculum which plays a fundamentally important role in the child's growth. This ideal is meaningful to my professional life because I know how important the learning environment is for children's developement. We have to make sure objects are not harmful and that they are appropriate for learning and development.

  1. The second ethical value you mentioned is very important. We need to make sure we provide inclusive services, not for just in terms of diversity and non-traditional family structures but for children with special needs as well.We need to make sure that we are ready for such students in the event they join our classrooms before so they do not feel like they are a burden to us and that they are welcome, we recognize their needs and it is no problem for us to accommodate them.

  2. Your last sentence really captured my attention. We are always aware of using developmentally appropriate materials but when you used the word "harmful" it made me think not just in risky objects, but on how non appropriate ones can harm children, not just physically - an accident- but emotionally as well if they frustrate trying to accomplish something they are not ready for.

  3. I love the codes you have selected. I have selected similar ones. It is so m=important for us to be the voice for the children. I also agree with it is part of our job to make sure the children are safe in all forms of the word safe. Whether it is the materials we use the activites we do or the people they encounter while they are with us

  4. I.1.9
We must advocate for our students. It is very important. We must have their best interest at heart. We know out students better than anyone. Therefore, we must stand up for them when no one else will.

I always really felt motivated by the quotes you chose. You don't know it but they really spoke to me and reaffirmed my purpose. I wish you nothing but success.
